How long have you been in your industry?6 years
Why did you choose your industry?I chose this industry because of my passion for empowering others and creating lasting impact. My journey began in the nonprofit sector, where I saw firsthand how strong leadership and collaboration could transform communities. I wanted to use my experience and skills to help boards and leadership teams unlock their full potential and achieve extraordinary results, whether in nonprofit or corporate settings.
Who are your typical clients? My clients are corporate and nonprofit boards of directors, executives, and leadership teams seeking to enhance strategic decision-making, governance, and collaboration. They range from established organizations aiming to elevate their impact to new boards seeking a strong foundation for success.
What do you like best about being in this industry?I love being a catalyst for change and growth. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing a board or leadership team evolve into a high-performing, unified group capable of achieving ambitious goals. Helping others succeed and witnessing their transformation is what drives me.
What are common problems you see?Common problems include:Lack of alignment and collaboration within boards.Inadequate succession planning or leadership transitions.Board members unclear about their roles and responsibilities.Challenges with fundraising or securing major gifts.Inefficient governance practices that hinder strategic progress.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Invest in leadership development: Strong boards don’t happen by accident; they require intentional growth and training.Prioritize alignment: Ensure everyone on your board understands the mission and their role in achieving it.Collaborate effectively: Leverage each board member’s unique strengths to create a unified, strategic team.Plan for the future: Develop a strong succession plan and ensure leadership transitions are smooth and supportive.
When is your busy season? My busiest seasons are typically winter and fall, when organizations often conduct board retreats, strategic planning sessions, and annual fundraising initiatives.
What keeps you up at night? What keeps me up at night is thinking about how to help organizations overcome resistance to change and embrace the strategies that will take them to the next level. I’m constantly innovating to provide the best possible solutions for my clients.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I market my business through speaking engagements, workshops, and thought leadership on platforms like LinkedIn. I also create valuable resources like lead magnets and host virtual summits to attract and engage my ideal clients. Additionally, I leverage my newsletter, social media presence, and podcast guest appearances to build credibility and expand my reach.
How involved are you in the community?I’m deeply involved in my community through my work as a Dream Team Architect, helping local boards and organizations excel. I also support veterans' initiatives and participate in events that honor their service, like the Hometown Hero banner program in Edinburg. I also serve on 5 community boards, 1 corporate advisory board and serve as the Chair of the Mayor's Youth Advisory Board.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity? One of my favorite nonprofits is the Boys & Girls Clubs, as I’ve had the privilege of working closely with them on impactful initiatives.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business?Build your expertise: Develop deep knowledge and experience.Start small: Work with a few organizations to gain experience and refine your approach.Invest in your network: Relationships are key in this business, so focus on building genuine connections.Be patient but persistent: Building a reputation as a trusted expert takes time. And finally, Get on other people's stages.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?In my free time, I enjoy spending quality moments with my family, reading, writing, and brainstorming new ways to empower leaders and organizations. I also love reflecting on my journey and finding inspiration for my next keynote or project.
