How long have you been in your industry?2 Years
Why did you choose your industry?Chose it because I have a vast amount of experience at mentoring and developing leaders in both government and industry and felt like I still had a lot to offer mid and upper level managers to help them in their growth and development.
Who are your typical clients?Manager, Supervisors, Assistant Directors and Directors of various industries both in and outside of Government. Typically they are leaders in charge of both small (10-100) and medium (100-250) teams of personnel. I have also worked within a group setting to help discuss the ongoing development of those leaders to improve both their personal and professional skill set.
What do you like best about being in this industry? It allows me to utilize and pass on to others, skill sets that I have grown and developed during my career for the last 30+ years. Skills such as adapting and learning how to become flexible through unexpected changes, communicating both up and down your organizational structure, utilizing critical thinking and curiosity development by learning how to ask the right “Why” questions.
What are common problems you see?Having spoke at length to many Senior Leaders both in industry and government, there is an absolute need for someone to help growing leaders and Mid-Level managers with the skills that I offer, but there isn’t a clear avenue or path to open up this conversation.
What advice/tips do you have for clients?Think through some of the problems or leadership shortfalls you may see within yourself or within your team that you would like to improve. You may not realize how much positive productivity you may be losing as a result of those deficiencies. Addressing them and working to develop them could be a key unlock to a significant level of financial growth and professional development within your organization.
When is your busy season?I have a constant stream of clients, so my time is evenly distributed.
What keeps you up at night?Trying to figure out how I can reach out to others to share what I have to offer. I also think through my clients problems if they are ones that require extensive thought or outside assistance or additional resources on my end.
How do you market yourself to grow/expand your business?I have written two books based on my 35 years of Leadership experience and helping others during my time in the Military and at Fanatics. As I actively advertise and let others know about those books, I have been able to utilize that material and my extensive background in training and mentoring at various levels as the basis for what I do to help others improve their leadership skill set.
How involved are you in the community?Have worked as volunteer at local Soccer Clubs and High School.
What is your favorite not for profit or charity?Member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc for over 36 years.
What advice would you give to someone thinking of getting into this business? You must have a solid core of knowledge and experience because in working with different leaders and clients, everyone has different challenges. Some you may have seen, others that are different, so helping them will really depend on your level of Problem Solving experience, Lessons Learned, contacts and resources to help them in resolving their issues.
What do you enjoy doing in your free time?Reading, writing, exercising, walking and playing with dogs and traveling.
